India is home to a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-religious society. The subcontinent's long and diverse history has given it a unique eclectic culture.
India is the second most culturally, linguistically and genetically diverse geographical entity after the African continent. India's Republican democracy is premised on a national belief in pluralism, not the standard nationalist invocation of a shared history, a single language and an assimilative culture.
As a people, though we speak different languages, follow different religions and even eat different kinds of food we are all Indians. 'Unity in Diversity' has been the distinctive feature of our culture.
Modern India presents a picture perfect image of unity in diversity where people of different faiths and beliefs live together in peace and harmony. Withstanding all this, India remains one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world!!
With all this going for our country I thought that it would be amazing if I could depict one of these aspects – “The multiple faiths of our people”. That is why I have chosen Unity in Diversity as my theme.
This work of art…literally, took almost 4 days of painstaking effort and commitment. With intricate detailing and the use of the latest techniques available in the world of pastry and confectionary today, I have created this masterpiece.
The techniques I have used to make this centerpiece include
- Brush Embroidery
- Paint Embroidery
- Embossing
- Air Brush Spraying (Using edible gel colors)
This centerpiece has been created on plaques and frames made of sugar paste which is air dried and then polished with a mechanical hand pervical to give a smooth finish, which in turn can act as a canvas to do the given images with one hundred percent edible gel based colors.
The 5 most sacred places of different faiths have been depicted to create the best impact of a pastry center piece.
