WORLD TOURISM DAY-2010

Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide. This year as part of the World Tourism Day the Andhra Pradesh govt.had announced celebrations in a big way at Peoples Plaza. All the Hotel Management and catering institutes had come up with their stalls and so did the 3 and 4 star resorts and the art galleries and museums. The limelight was stolen by the culinary academy of India with their huge display of edible sculptures depicting the theme of tourism. The entire structure of 30'x30' was mounted on a the national flower of India Lotus. Butter Sculpture, Tallow sculpture, choclate sculpture, Cocoa painting, Fruit and vegetable carving,Nougatine show piece,Pastillage,Salltillage,Salt Dough ,Ginger Bread, Styrofoam was all used in the making of 18 intricately carved and designed showpieces. Ice carving was done live at the venue. The display was the show stopper of the day and the seven days and night of hard work put in by the chefs of the academy is well appreciated.
